During the Second World War, as men and women enlisted to serve in the Armed Forces, the civilian population played a crucial role in supporting the war effort. This collective effort became known as the Home Front.
The Home Front is remembered for many contributions, such as:
Civil Defence; Air Raid Shelters; Gas Masks; ARP Wardens; Women’s Voluntary Service; Rationing; The Blackout; Evacuations; The Blitz; Digging for Victory; Salvage Campaigns and much more.
Life on the Home Front was pivotal to the war effort, shaping both daily life and the eventual outcome of the conflict.
My Guided Walking Tour takes you back in time to explore how Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, responded to the war. Through captivating photographs, historical artefacts, and visits to key locations, you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the town’s wartime experiences.
